To Dream the Impossible Dream

To dream the impossible dream
To fight the unbeatable foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go

To right the unrightable wrong
To love pure and chaste from afar
To try when your arms are too weary
To reach the unreachable star

This is my quest
To follow that star
No matter how hopeless
No matter how far

To fight for the right
Without question or pause
To be willing to march into Hell
For a heavenly cause

And I know if I'll only be true
To this glorious quest
That my heart will lie peaceful and calm
When I'm laid to my rest

And the world will be better for this
That one man, scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
To reach the unreachable star

Douglas Arner

To begin, I live in Germany. My dad, who is a military doctor, has kept us on our toes with his work - requiring us to move every 3 years. This has taken us all over America and finally even overseas. Along the way, it has been quite an adventure; one that has changed the very course of my life.

The moving required me to change schools frequently. I wanted stability, and I found it when I switched to Williamsburg Academy. This school has been one of the greatest blessings of my life. The lessons I've learned here will stay with me forever. I honestly can't say thank you too many times.

Anyway, here's a little bit about me: I'm a twin. Alex, my younger brother by 3 minutes, is often confused with me. Fortunately, I believe as a result of this, I have developed the virtue of patience with names.

I live in a family with 5 siblings and two parents. I love learning and, more so, experiencing things. Adventures, the fog of the future, and nature all make me tingle with excitement. I play piano at an intermediate level, enjoy good literature, dialectical discussions, and teaching.

Speaking of adventures, there will be some great ones coming up. Since Alex and I graduated a year early, we'll be working at a camp in the Teton Mountains for 2 months, going on a 500-mile long pilgrimage across Spain with our cousin, and taking a semester of college before leaving on a church mission. After that, my specifics fade into lifelong dreams and desires.

My greatest ambition in life is to be a spiritual man. I desire to be a great teacher. I want to be a true leader. I would love to, at one point, open up the best youth camp ever. I want to be very intelligent and wise, balancing both with honest charism. Life is great and I'm excited to start the next chapter with a bit of zest and a heaping tablespoon of awesomeness.
