My name is Elena Glenn and I was adopted from Romania at age three. This has given me an interest in adoption and Romanian orphanages. From Romania my parents took me to the United States Virgin Islands. I have lived here for thirteen years.

I have had every schooling possible and so many different experiences. During my younger years while I was homeschooled my family and I lived on an RV for 4 to 5 months a year traveling throughout the United States. We also spent two years living in Colorado in a co-housing complex. This was a fascinating experience where I learned about living in community and working with all different ages. I assisted the elderly, babysat and walked dogs as small jobs. In 8th grade I spent a year at Arthur Morgan School, an outdoor living and learning environment in the Blue Ridge Mountains. We grew our own food, raised turkeys, goats, and milked our own cow. This school emphasized self-sufficiency and interdependence as a community. During my time at this school I went on a three-day and six-day backpacking trip, and an 18-day southern culture excursion. All of these experiences have given me a passion for new experiences and involvement with others. After a year at AMS  I went home and went to Gifft Hill School. For two years at Gifft Hill School I was involved with the Interact Club, a student branch of the Rotary Club, organizing community service projects. From 9th thru 11th grade I participated in Gifft Hill School “Farm to Table”, a program where students grow, prepare and create their own dishes. We organized and hosted special fundraising dining events with these entrees as the highlight.

I’ve had so many different and amazing experiences from schooling to living in a RV. This year I wanted to go back to Williamsburg because I truly believe in what the school is trying to do. I love how excited each mentor to teach what they’re teaching, and they all understand why they are teaching you that particular subject. Also, this school has prepared me for college better than any other school could.

I will be going to Quincy College in Quincy, MA. That is about 20 minutes away from Boston, MA. I will be studying to be a nurse and after five years I’ll be able to help people which is my true passion. I love going out and giving back to my community and helping others believe in themseleves.
